Kenya Karuthi

This variant is currently sold out

Karuthi is a new coffee for us this year, having been introduced to this offering through our friends at Saint Frank in San Francisco and their sister importing company, Bonaventure Coffee Project.

Founded in 1958, the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society works with Karuthi and eighteen other factories (in Kenya, washing stations are referred to as factories). Karuthi is made up of around 200 smallholder producers, and regularly achieves some of the highest prices paid for coffee within the Othaya cooperative.

Coffees from Kenya are often highly regarded for their complex acidity and sweetness, and while Karuthi is no exception, we also find a wonderful balance and texture. In the cup, we find flavors of blackberry and grapefruit, with an acidity and sweetness that reminds us simultaneously of drinking limeade on a warm summer’s day, along with a silky, lingering finish.
