Kenya Gitura

This variant is currently sold out

Many coffee producing countries experience two harvests - a main harvest, and a fly crop, where a smaller amount of coffee is harvested. This coffee comes from Kenya’s fly crop, which is generally harvested beginning in October through December. The Iyego Coffee Growers Cooperative Society serves over five hundred farmer members, who deliver their coffee cherries to the Gitura Coffee Factory.

At the processing mill, or factory, the coffee is sorted, depulped, and processed, then washed four times. Kenya is known for meticulous processing and washing, and this processing leads to the flavors in the cup, ranging from citrus acidity, heavy sugary sweetness, and tropical fruits.

We’ve been enjoying this coffee’s fruit profile, with complex acidity and sugars. If a comparison had to be made, Kenyan coffees remind us of a Riesling, with acidity and sweetness turned up, along with tropical fruit and aromas that make for a flavorful experience.
