Gore Dako is the name of a cooperative of smallholder member farmers, located in the Jimma region of Ethiopia (northwest of Sidama, Yirgacheffe, and Guji). This is the cooperative’s first harvest operating and producing coffee.

In 2009, USAID (United States Agency for International Development) and Technoserve (an international nonprofit) developed an initiative to support coffee farmers in the area, many of whom did not grow enough coffee to sell independently or have access to markets. This initiative focused on building mills to process coffee, and to demonstrate the success of cooperatives in getting better prices for their coffee. In many ways, Gore Dako owes its origins to larger cooperatives such as Duromina and Hunda Oli, which have made a name for themselves for cup quality.

Gore Dako is filled with wonderfully sweet flavors, reminding us of ripe cherry and sweet citrus in the cup. A fruity acidity similar to tangerine or golden kiwi becomes more distinct as the coffee cools. There is a lasting note of milk chocolate, both in flavor and in texture, that persists from start to finish.
