Indonesia Kamala Gulang Anaerobic

This variant is currently sold out

Kamala Gulang is a coffee produced in collaboration between Catur Coffee and Tuang Coffee in Indonesia. Both groups emphasize coffee cultivation and improving the landscape of coffee production. While farmers in Indonesia often grow coffee as a source of supplementary income in addition to other cash crops, Catur and Tuang hope to provide stability and market access for these farmers through resources and education.

The name ‘Kamala’, meaning “lotus” and derived from the Sanskrit word describing a pale red color, refers to the processing method and flavor profile for this coffee. After the coffee cherries are harvested, they are processed in the town of Ruteng, using large water tanks in extended anaerobic processing methods, as well as using inoculants such as yeast strains to direct the impact of processing and fermentation on the final cup profile.

For a long time, Indonesian coffees have struggled to find traction in specialty coffee markets, often due to the varieties or processing methods traditionally used. We’re excited to share this intentionally produced coffee. In the cup, we find red fruit like raspberry and strawberry, with a floral hibiscus quality and a rich, complex cacao character.
